Pathfinder\u2019s pilot project will improve health outcomes by providing mothers and babies with the nutrients they need\u2014saving lives and generating evidence to scale the project across Egypt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maternal and child malnutrition in Egypt contributes to low birth weight, stunting, stillbirths, and congenital malformations. Current supplementation (Iron &amp; Folic Acid only) leaves gaps in maternal and neonatal health. Pathfinder will introduce multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) to 50k women in two governorates, working to: Improve maternal and newborn health, reducing anemia and maternal mortality in mothers, and low birth weight, stillbirths, and congenital malformations in babies. Increase stunting prevention when extended to infants after 6 months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-textgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7b61cae8b565ff0e430e0ffaa46e7599\">Project Activities <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pathfinder will pilot&nbsp;MMS in two governorates (Minya and Marsa&nbsp;Matrouh), reaching 50,000 women of reproductive age through 1,500 clinics and communities&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide MMS to women before and during pregnancy to improve maternal and newborn health&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthen the health system by testing digital supply chains, provider training, and updated service protocols<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage communities with awareness campaigns to increase understanding and uptake of MMS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate evidence and lessons for&nbsp;scaling up&nbsp;nationwide under Ministry of Health and Population leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bbac707c46f0d7a53face33ac2ae510d\" style=\"margin-bottom:0;padding-bottom:0\">Maternal Health Context in Egypt<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"margin-top:0;padding-top:0\">Health expenditure makes up 4.6% of Egypt&#8217;s GDP <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>37.90% of married women aged 15-49 have anemia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>76.9%&nbsp;of&nbsp;women show persistent&nbsp;vitamin&nbsp;deficiencies&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":8639,"template":"","class_list":["post-8638","projects","type-projects","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/projects\/8638","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/projects"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/projects"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/8639"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8638"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
