{"id":7842,"date":"2025-06-20T12:40:46","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T16:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/?post_type=publications&#038;p=7842"},"modified":"2025-06-23T14:25:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T18:25:14","slug":"how-impacto-strengthened-young-womens-engagement-in-local-governing-bodies","status":"publish","type":"publications","link":"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/publications\/how-impacto-strengthened-young-womens-engagement-in-local-governing-bodies\/","title":{"rendered":"Fostering Civic Participation in Mozambique: How Impacto Strengthened Young Women\u2019s Engagement in Local Governing Bodies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From 2018 to 2024, the Supporting Family Planning and Abortion Services project (locally known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/projects\/impacto\/\">Impacto<\/a>) aimed to improve gender equality so that adolescent girls and young women can exercise their right to bodily autonomy. Through a multi-pronged approach, Impacto built a conducive environment for adolescent girls\u2019 and young women\u2019s perspectives to be valued and respected. Across nine districts in Manica and Tete Provinces, Impacto facilitated adolescent girls\u2019 and young women\u2019s civic participation in public decision-making spaces by increasing their awareness of their rights, building their skills in civic action and public advocacy, and addressing social barriers limiting their acceptance. This brief outlines Impacto\u2019s approach and explores drivers of and lessons from adolescent girls\u2019 and young women\u2019s inclusion in public decision-making spaces.
