The African continent faces unique challenges in advancing SRHR and gender equality, which have been compounded by global funding withdrawal. The retreat of traditional donors has created significant gaps in national budgets, and political environments in many countries are becoming more hostile to SRHR and gender equity initiatives.

With civic spaces for advocacy shrinking, Women Deliver 2026 presents a strategic moment to reverse this trend. It offers a powerful platform for African advocates to reclaim space, demand accountability, and ensure that SRHR and gender justice remain central to global development frameworks. As these intersecting pressures mount, this convening is timely as it seeks to strengthen advocacy networks, co-create roadmap towards 2030 and beyond and defend the rights and dignity of all people, especially young women, adolescents, and marginalized groups—across Africa. At this crucial time, we can no longer afford fragmented responses.

ICFP 2025 will unite leaders, advocates, and innovators from across the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) community to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and drive progress toward achieving and safeguarding SRHR for all.

Pathfinder at ICFP2025

At Pathfinder, we’re looking forward to #ICFP2025 as an opportunity to share our work through our 18 abstract presentations; learn from and reconnect with our allies and colleagues across the SRHR field; and reignite our commitment to SRHR as a crucial component of gender equity.

If you’ll be on the ground in Bogotá for #ICFP2025 this year, we invite you to join us at our side event on November 5, where we’ll be launching our Toolkit for Gender-Transformative Approaches (see below for details). Developed by our Takeda-funded Advancing the Leadership of Women and Girls Towards Better Health and Climate Change Resilience project, this toolkit is a practical and actionable resource that equips policymakers, program implementers, and advocates with evidence-informed strategies to challenge harmful gender norms and shift power imbalances while building resilience to climate change.

And don’t forget to stop by our exhibition booth (#85) on the fourth floor of the Ágora Bogotá Convention Center! In addition to browsing some of our resources and chatting with our technical experts, you’ll also have the chance to try your hand at winning a hand-poured candle made by women artisans in Pakistan.

CATALYSTS FOR CHANGE

Launch of the GTA Toolkit for Gender Equity and Climate Resilience

November 5, 2025 | 7:00 – 8:25AM | Room M

As the world navigates the growing and interconnected crises caused by climate change, it becomes increasingly clear that these impacts are not experienced equally. Climate change is not gender neutral. Its consequences deepen pre-existing social and gender inequalities, disproportionately affecting women, girls, and marginalized communities, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The cascading effects of environmental degradation and extreme weather events, from droughts and floods to food insecurity and displacement, compound the vulnerabilities faced by women and girls.

Pakistan and Bangladesh stand at the forefront of the global climate crisis, consistently ranked among the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. Despite differences in geography and socio-economic realities, both nations face escalating environmental challenges that threaten the wellbeing of millions and jeopardize hard-won development gains. Both countries are contending with the social consequences of climate change, particularly its disproportionate impact on women, children, and marginalized communities. Health risks, disrupted livelihoods, and displacement have deepened vulnerabilities, placing additional strain on already fragile public services.

In recognition of these intersecting challenges, the Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA) Toolkit has been developed under the Takeda-funded Advancing the Leadership of Women and Girls Towards Better Health and Climate Change Resilience project. Designed as a practical and actionable resource for family planning, reproductive health, and climate resilience practitioners, this toolkit equips policymakers, program implementers, and advocates with evidence-informed strategies to challenge harmful gender norms, shift power imbalances, and create enabling environments for gender equity.

Join us at our side event at ICFP, where we will demonstrate the toolkit’s application and spark collaborative dialogue on how gender-transformative approaches can be effectively integrated into family planning and health initiatives amid the realities of a changing climate.

From Care Workers to Entrepreneurs: Investing in Women-Led Solutions for Social Development https://www.pathfinder.org/events/social-development-summit/ Thu, 02 Oct 2025 16:54:06 +0000 https://www.pathfinder.org/?post_type=events&p=8325

From Care Workers to Entrepreneurs

November 5, 2025 | 8:00 – 9:30AM EST

This side event is a joint initiative of Women in Global Health and Pathfinder International, united by a shared commitment to gender equity in the health and care sector. Women make up nearly 70% of the global health and care workforce, yet they remain concentrated in lower-paid, lower-status roles and are often unpaid or underpaid for essential work. Despite their critical contributions, this workforce remains undervalued and under-resourced.

Investing in the health and care economy is not only a public health imperative — it is a proven strategy for social and economic development. Quality jobs in the care sector can lift families out of poverty, empower women, and contribute significantly to GDP growth. These investments improve health outcomes, reduce inequality, and build more resilient societies.

This side event will explore how centering care and health work — especially women’s work — in economic development planning can unlock transformative change. Pathfinder International is advancing a bold shift toward women-led, locally grounded solutions that strengthen communities and promote equity. A key part of this strategy is Women&Co., a social innovation platform designed to scale women-led solutions that improve health, drive economic opportunity, and enhance community well-being. One such initiative is FemVive, a social enterprise that empowers women entrepreneurs to generate income while expanding access to health and wellness products.

Women in Global Health (WGH) complements this vision through its global movement to advance women’s leadership in health. With over 50 national chapters, WGH equips early- to mid-career women with tools for leadership through Gender Transformative Leadership (GTL) training, advocacy and media programs, and grassroots campaigns. WGH India, for example, works with women in second- and third-tier cities to develop localized leadership and advocacy tools. WGH Kenya partners with Community Health Promoters to elevate local voices, and WGH Nigeria runs fellowships that highlight women’s leadership through storytelling and research. The WGH Speakers Bureau and StoryBoard platform also give visibility to women leaders globally.

By fostering both individual empowerment and collective action, WGH is helping shift power structures in health systems and policy spaces. These women-led approaches are critical to building equitable, inclusive, and sustainable health and care systems.

The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) https://www.pathfinder.org/events/acs2/ Thu, 28 Aug 2025 17:21:27 +0000 https://www.pathfinder.org/?post_type=events&p=8126 The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) is hosted by the Government of Ethiopia in collaboration with the African Union. The Government of Ethiopia and African Union are committed for advancing Africa’s climate agenda and sustainable development priorities.

Climate change is putting communities, economies and investments at risk across the African continent. ACS2 is a critical milestone on the road to COP30 for Africa to articulate its priorities and commitments – championing home-grown solutions that are driving adaptation and systems-level shifts. The conference will provide a platform for policymakers, practitioners, businesses and civil society to advance Africa’s climate agenda and sustainable development priorities.

    Monday, September 8 at 12:00–13:30
Room M3, Addis International Convention Center (RSVP Today)

Climate change is a growing threat to public health, particularly in vulnerable regions like Ethiopia, where extreme weather events, food insecurity, and water scarcity exacerbate health risks. Women and girls are disproportionately affected due to socio-economic and biological factors, facing heightened risks of malnutrition, infectious diseases, and maternal health complications.

#ACS2 provides an opportunity to highlight the intersection of climate change and health, with a focus on Ethiopia. This session will explore policy gaps, community-based solutions, and strategies to strengthen health systems against climate-induced challenges. The session aims to:

    • Promote the inclusion of women and girls in climate decision-making processes at local, national, and regional levels.
    • Create awareness about how climate change disproportionately affects women’s health (e.g., maternal health, malnutrition, disease burden) and identify gender-responsive solutions.
    • Showcase successful women-led initiatives in climate adaptation, disaster response, and health resilience across Africa.
    • Advocate for gender-sensitive climate policies and increased financial support for women-led climate and health resilience programs.
    • Encourage collaboration among governments, NGOs, private sector actors, and grassroots women’s groups to scale up solutions.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Côte d’Ivoire, The Gates Foundation, and key partners, Pathfinder Côte d’Ivoire will host a closed-door roundtable side event in New York City. This convening will serve as a critical platform to catalyze sustainable financing for Côte d’Ivoire’s health priorities, establish long-term partnerships, and explore possibilities for a multi-stakeholder fiduciary fund.

    Tuesday, September 23 at 3:00 – 4:00PM
    Convene | 810 7th Avenue, 23rd Floor

Climate change and gender inequality are twin crises with deeply interconnected impacts. Women and girls—particularly in low- and middle-income countries—bear disproportionate health, social, and economic burdens, yet remain underrepresented in decision-making. The Gender Snapshot 2024 warns that by 2050, 158 million more women and girls may be pushed into poverty due to climate change – 16 million more than men.

Already, nearly 50 million more women than men are likely to face food insecurity. These inequities intersect with other forms of discrimination, compounding risks for Indigenous, Afro-descendant, LGBTQIA+, stateless, and disabled women and girls.

At the same time, women across the globe are designing climate-health solutions—leading sustainable agriculture, driving renewable energy adoption, and mobilizing communities. Their leadership is essential for resilience, yet their voices remain fragmented and under-resourced.

This roundtable at UNGA80 will bring together women leaders across sectors and generations to build a chain of advocates: a sustained platform that moves beyond dialogue to collective, equity-centered influence on climate-health policy.

Building a Chain of Women Advocates for Climate Action

    Friday, September 26 at 9:00 – 11:00AM
    The Penn Club & Online

Women in Global Health (WGH), AMREF Health Africa, and Pathfinder International are convening women climate–health advocates from across the globe for a high-level strategic dialogue at UNGA80. The roundtable will move beyond fragmented advocacy to coordinated global action—developing immediate policy recommendations for Climate Week NYC and laying the foundation for sustained collaboration.
