IMPACT2-Liptako

Funder

Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Overview
2020–2022

Niger has one of the highest fertility rate in the world, and sexual and reproductive health and rights are limited due to socio-cultural norms and a lack of awareness about sexuality. The IMPACT2-Liptako project takes a gender transformation approach to this challenge, one that examines, challenges, and changes rigid gender norms and power imbalances that ultimately lead to improved sexual and reproductive rights – with a focus on adolescent girls and young women.

Project Activities

  • Established a gender-transformative approach – one that examines, challenges and changes rigid gender norms and power imbalances – to sexual and reproductive health and family planning in four regions.
  • Focused on education for adolescents and young girls – including brides and unmarried girls – in the Dosso and Tillabery regions, through group discussions, community leaders, and plays and lectures.
  • Strengthened the management and referral systems of GBV survivors.
  • Strengthened advocacy to promote education and access to sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and unmarried children in schools and communities.
  • Implemented a national advocacy strategy that targets institutions including the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Secondary Education.
